ABOUT IELC

     India Evangelical Lutheran Church [IELC] is a Protestant  Christian denomination in India. Its  headquarters situated in Tamil Nadu. The inception of IELC  is rooted in the mission work of LCMS, beginning in 1894. Over the following decades, the LCMS sent more than 60 missionaries to serve in India. In 1959 , the IELC was established as an LCMS partner church and now does work in all over India.  The IELC has approximately 764 congregations, 1,15,000 baptized members, 70,000 communicant members and 220 active pastors.The India Evangelical Lutheran Church was formally organized and registered on 9th  February, 1959 bearing Registration No. 11/1959 under The Societies Registration Act, 1860. The CONSTITUTION ANS BYE – LAWS  are amended in 2022 upon Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 and Rule 17 (2) of Tamilnadu Societies Registration Rules,1978, consisting of all the three Synods, namely- Ambur Synod, Nagercoil Synod, Trivandrum Synod and Churches established outside the Jurisdiction of the three Synods. The Registered Office of IELC is at ( old No. 21) 47, Eldams  Road, Teynampet, Chennai, Tamilnadu, Pin – 600018.           

In 1956 October 8th The Trivandrum District Synod [ T D S } was formed ,Rev.D. Vedamanikam was the 1st President of TDS and, Rev. C.M Jacob be the 1st Secretary of Trivandrum Synod. At present there are 5 Circles under Trivandrum Synod. They are Balaramapuram Circle, Luthergiri Circle, Nilamael Circle , Ponvila Circle and Trivandrum Circle.           

The Trivandrum Synod office is functioning at Concordia compound and the address of Trivandrum Synod Office is – TDS  Synod Office, C. L. H. S. S Compound, Peroorkada, Tvm - 5. The first Lutheran Church in Kerala was established at Kuttichel in May 1911.The current president of  I E L C is Rev. Dr. J Priestly Balasingh, who was elected as president of IELC in 22nd October 2022 through secret ballot poling. The vice-president elected is Rev. Y.K. Mohandas, The General Treasurer-cum –Secretary Mr. Stalin and the Comptroller is Mr. Sathyakumar. The present President of Trivandrum Synod is Rev. M. Mohanan, The Vice-President is Rev. Mohanraj, The Secretary Sri. A. Pramod Kumar , Joint Secretary Smt. Kala.T, and the treasure Sri. Varasus Bellardson and all these Synod office bears taken the charge on 2022 November 1st.
